Let me start
by being very frank, there's ONLY ONE Yorkshire Terrier classification "Toy Breed" plain and simple!
There are
no "t
-
cup"
no "teacup"
no
"teddy bear micro mini" no "babydoll miniature"
no "purse puppy"
no
"standard" yorkie puppies or Yorkshire Terrier adults.
You simply have a very small dog, with the exception of the "standard." A tiny yorkie
baby that is
fragile, prone to health problems and often nothing but a heartbreak
waiting to happen. A yorkie shouldn't be a frail nervous little dog yet
these little ones tend to be just that! The well bred Yorkshire Terrier
"yorkie" is a proud, high spirited, exciting
little terrier who thinks it's as big as a Great Dane.
Beware of
Yorkshire Terrier breeders who advertise
descriptive words other than "toy" when searching for your
perfect yorkie puppy companion!
I do NOT recommend purchasing a Yorkshire Terrier under 4 pounds
estimated adult weight. Many yorkie babies
under 4 lbs tend to have frail body structure, fragile bones and numerous
heath issues (please refer to our -
Hypoglycemia).
Many lack proper mouth size for healthy
teeth resulting in early teeth loss and difficulty eating. Many tiny
yorkies have
trouble regulating
blood sugar resulting in
hypoglycemic shock or worse coma and death.
Uncaring kennels deliberately and continuously breed high-risk Yorkshire
Terriers charging outrageous prices for the tiniest offspring. Many
Internet breeders who advertise yorkie puppies for sale charge $3,500.00 to $10,000.00 for
"T Cup yorkies, Teacup yorkies, Purse
Puppy, Micro Mini's, Miniature yorkies" Yorkshire Terrier puppies. These kennels breed
greed, often over breeding their undersized bitches never once considering her
health nor the health and well being of her offspring. Don't support
these irresponsible breeders.
A yorkie that matures to 4 - 7lbs is what every reputable breeder
strives for consistently breeding within breed standard NOTHING
MORE or NOTHING LESS. The imaginary "teacup yorkies, t
- cup yorkies, micro mini yorkies, babydoll, teddy bear
miniature yorkies or pocketbook puppies" are terms uncaring breeders use to describe their
undersized yorkie puppies. These breeders consistently breed
very tiny 2 - 4lb adults producing the tiniest
offspring resulting in VERY high risk
puppies! Most frequently asked questions "Do you
have teacup yorkies for sale?" or " Do you breed miniature yorkies for sale?"
NO
they don't exist! Or
"Do you have yorkies small enough to fit in my purse full
grown?" answer NOT USUALLY!
NOTE: The reputable breeder will on
occasion have smaller puppies from a normal sized breeding pair, these
puppies are not as high risk being conceived from normal size parents,
unlike breeders that purposely breed their tiniest adults for the sole
purpose of producing very undersized yorkie puppies.
Why then do so many breeders advertise these yorkies for sale?
Unscrupulous breeders attract a buyers attention by using
catchy phrases
like "teacup yorkies, baby doll miniature yorkies, teddy
bear yorkies, t cup yorkies or micro mini yorkies" for sale, taking advantage of
those unfamiliar with the breed or the Yorkshire Terriers breed standard
as stated by
AKC. These breeders are salespeople convincing a buyer they're
INVESTING
in something special. These breeders also base PRICING on SIZE or
shall I say "lack of size" not QUALITY, the smaller the yorkie
the larger the price tag.
What they DON'T disclose
the smaller the
dog the larger the vet bills!
Be
aware, many kennels, yorkie puppy mills and back yard
breeders advertise for sale "standard yorkie puppies"
these puppies weight
will exceed 7 lbs at adult size, some yorkies maturing up to 20lbs. Yes, I
said 20 lbs. These breeders tend to be those who choose to ignore breed
standard. Breeding an over sized female to a much smaller male is
irresponsible and more often the Yorkshire Terrier bitch genealogy will prove the breeder
wrong.
Remember
the Yorkshire
Terrier is classified as "toy group," the breed standard
is written by the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America "YTCA," and
adopted by the American Kennel Club "AKC," not to exceed 7lbs.
On average, a Yorkshire Terrier weighs between 4 and 7 pounds as an adult.
NOTE:
when
purchasing a yorkie puppy refer to our -
weight/growth
chart. A puppy
weighing 2lbs or more at 12 weeks old will double their weight as an
adult in most cases (sometimes more). Old rule of thumb, triple
the weight of an 8 week old yorkie puppy and double the weight at 12
weeks. When in doubt request the breeder to weigh the puppy
and the dam/sire in front of you, if they're offended or
explain they can't perhaps you should reconsider buying from this
breeder.

Do not buy from a "click and pay" yorkie puppy
for sale website or a site that provides a "shopping cart," for
your shopping convenience, they now have your credit card number and your money,
what next, does this puppy actually exist, often times NO! These breeders are more concerned about
$$$$ deposits and
easy pay than the welfare of their puppies. You know nothing about the
breeder, the breeder knows nothing about you, yet they're tugging on your
emotions and heart strings to quickly "reserve your puppy today." A reputable breeder will
require personal information about you and the home you are offering to
assure proper placement of their puppies. A reputable breeder wants to
get to know you before committing a puppy and will be there for you
throughout the life of the puppy.
Do not buy from a site where you can not directly speak with the
breeder, there are many yorkie puppy brokers on the web, their sites
mimic a breeders site, they're simply a middleman that know nothing
about the puppy, in most cases they're hired by a conglomerate or
network of breeders that can't be bothered with the placement of their
puppies or they're hired by mill breeders to sell their puppies,
these too in many cases provide the "click and pay" options.
Please refer to -
Stop Puppy Mills
Web sites that accept credit cards, offering next-day shipping are quick
and easy sources for finding yorkie puppies, don’t be fooled by a pretty
web site that accepts credit cards and high-pressure sales tactics,
promoting a puppy's size in a teacup or drinking glass is just plain
wrong! RED FLAG.

Beware of yorkie puppy scams
-
Do not buy from ads titled " free yorkie puppies" or "yorkies for shipping
costs only" "rehoming yorkies for free" "adorable yorkie
needs new home" "moved free yorkies " typical ad content is they've moved out of the
country and must rehome their puppy or puppies, usually missionary requesting only shipping cost paid via
Western Union RED FLAG.
Never wire money when buying a yorkie, never pay via Western Union for a
puppy!
Please refer to -
Yorkshire Terrier Puppy Scams.
Do not buy from a pet store, you are
supporting the puppy mill breeder, they have no concern for the quality,
health or welfare of their adult breeding yorkies, nor the health,
temperament, quality or placement of the puppies they are producing. The puppy mills do not socialize their puppies nor do they provide the
proper nurturing and health care a young yorkie puppy requires and
deserves. They sell their puppies at a very young age to the pet stores, often times at 6
weeks old the puppies destination are cages in your local pet store. The pet
store knows how to run your Mastercard but knows nothing about the puppy
and could care less, the puppy is merely a part of their pet store inventory.

Ask for details about their breeding program
(If they can't give you concrete details -
red flag)
Ask if they
strive to breed within the AKC Yorkshire Terrier breed quality standard, the standard is the blueprint or recipe to producing a good representation
of the Yorkshire Terrier breed (if they
can't answer, don't understand what it is or dismiss it -
red flag)
Please refer to the -
AKC Yorkshire Terrier
Standard.
Inquire about
the pedigrees of their breeding adults, the pedigrees are vital to the
reputable breeder in many ways determining size, temperament, quality
and health of the puppies
(if they can't discuss the
lineage of your potential puppy or scoff it off as unimportant -
red
flag)
At what age do they place their puppies? Reputable breeders will not
place a yorkie puppy before 12 weeks old often times longer depending on
weight.
(A breeder that places puppies between 6 - 10 weeks
old -
red flag)
Please refer to our -
puppy growth stages.
Ask
what health issues they've experienced in their breeding, do they
provide a health guarantee? The reputable breeder will provide a very
detailed puppy contract with at least a 1 year guarantee covering
genetic health issues that may arise within the first year in the toy
breed.
(if they do not -
red flag)
Please refer to our -
adoption contract.
Finally if the breeder doesn't interview you, she/he is more concerned
about the sell $$$ than the proper placement of the puppy
RED FLAG.
Please refer to our -
adoption questionnaire.
Don't
let emotions get the best of you, don't buy the first puppy you see,
take your time finding that perfect yorkie puppy this is a 12-15 year
commitment!
WARNING REMINDER:
Never send Western Union money
requests, there are several puppy scammers,
be careful if the
price is too good to be true then it is!
Remember a REPUTABLE breeder will always be there for you, for the life of your
puppy!
