Just like how humans, dogs need an optimum amount of physical activity to remain in good health. Some active breeds may require lots of playing time to ensure that they stay happy.

While a backyard lawn should suffice, sadly not everyone can afford a home with one, especially in California where property prices seem to be skyrocketing. If you’re a dog owner, fret not because California happens to be home to some of the best dog parks in the country. Here’s a list of dog parks that should come in handy:

Hurlington Central Dog Park – Orange County

Established in 1974, the Hurlington Central Park is the largest park in all of Orange County. It holds the distinction of having been voted by multiple magazines as one of the best dog parks in the city. There’s a ton of space for pets to frolic around and be done with their share of exercise for the day. Designated play areas for small and large dogs mean there’s one less thing to worry about.

But, visitors are expected to adhere to all rules and regulations. Alcoholic beverages are a strict no and visitors are expected to keep an eye on their pets at all times. Dogs will have to be vaccinated and licensed before they can enter the park. You can also visit Huntington dog beach from here which is one of the best dog friendly beaches in Orange County.

Location: 18002, Golden West Street

Huntington Beach

Yorba Orange Dog Park – Orange City

The newly renovated Yorba Orange Dog Park is the perfect spot to get your pup some much-needed time out in the sun. The park boasts of two separate areas for different sizes of dogs, brand-new exercise equipment, and watering stations. It’s being currently run by donations made by locals, so do your bit to keep this lovely park going by sticking to the rules and guidelines while visiting. Pick up trash, avoid feeding your dogs in the play area and always look out for your dog.

Location– 190 S, Yorba St.

Orange City

Working hours– Sunrise to sunset (closed on Wednesdays)

Bark Park – Costa Messa

This 2-acre dog park is located right next to the OC Fairgrounds, making it fairly easy to spot. It features plenty of open space, perfect for your beloved pup to run around and have fun. The Bark Park is conveniently divided to include separate play areas for small and large dogs. So, you need not worry about your pup running around with menacing larger dogs. But, this doesn’t rule out your prized pup from contracting an infection or injuring itself while playing. So, investing in California pet insurance might be a great way to cut down on costs in cases of an eventuality.

They’re currently open with a newer strict of rules and guidelines. You’re now expected to bring your own chairs, water bowls, and waste bags. Basic social distancing etiquette is still in place and it might be a smart idea to avoid petting dogs that are not yours.

Location: 890 Arlington Drive,

Costa Messa

Working hours: 7:30 am to 8:45 pm (closed on Wednesdays)

Crystal Cove Dog Park – Dana Point

Located between the Pacific Coast Highway and a quiet residential area, Crystal Cove Dog Park is a great spot for your adorable dog to get some much-needed exercise. While waste bags are provided for free, you’re still expected to bring your own water. Since it’s a much smaller park compared to the others on this list, it’s only got a single fenced area. So, you might have to contend with your pup playing with dogs much larger than its size. As compensation, this park offers stunning views of the ocean.

Location: 25044, Via Elevado

Dana Point

Working hours– 6 am to 10 pm

Laguna Niguel Pooch Park – Laguna Nigel

Conveniently located in a quiet suburb, this one-acre dog park has a fairly simple layout, making it easy to navigate. Despite the small acreage, it does have separate areas for large and small dogs. But, accessing the smaller play area will require you to go through the large enclosure. The park is nicely maintained with a water faucet for keeping your dog hydrated. Though there are a number of locations to park your car, you might have to walk a while to get to the dog park.

Location– 31575, Golden Lantern

Laguna Niguel

Working hours– 7 am to 8 pm (closed on Monday and Friday mornings)

Conclusion

So, there you have it! A list of the safest dog parks in and around California. Be sure to check out their websites and read through the guidelines before deciding to pay a visit. Some of the rules may have been altered because of the pandemic. If you have any queries, don’t be afraid to give them a call and enquire about them yourself.
